Visitor Services Representative

Are you passionate about providing excellent customer service and sharing your knowledge of New Glarus with others? The New Glarus Chamber of Commerce is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Visitor Services Representative (VSR) to welcome visitors, answer questions, offer recommendations, and represent the Chamber in a positive and professional manner.

Position Details

• Seasonal Position: May through October

• Weekend Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 9 AM – 4 PM (typically one day per weekend, as determined by the two staff members)

• Average Hours: 30 hours/month, with weekend shifts shared between two employees

• Holiday Coverage: Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day shifts will be divided between VSRs, with time-and-a-half pay.

• Festival Participation: Participation in festivals is required beyond staffing the Depot, as coordinated with the Events Director. This may include setup up, cleanup help, or other duties as assigned. Festivals occur:

• Second weekend of June: Polkafest/Beer, Bacon & Cheese Festival

• Third Saturday of July: Blues, Brews & Food Trucks

• Last full weekend of September: Oktoberfest

• Second weekend of December: Christkindli Holiday Market

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong customer service skills with at least 1 year of experience in customer service or hospitality

• Knowledge of local restaurants, shops, attractions, and lodging

• Experience handling cash and credit card transactions

• Excellent verbal communication skills

• Friendly, positive attitude with an outgoing personality

• Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently

• Must be 18+ years of age

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet and assist visitors both in-person and over the phone

• Provide recommendations, directions, and answer questions about New Glarus

• Handle merchandise sales and bike rentals

• Perform light office cleaning and maintain a welcoming environment

• Complete assigned projects independently

• Other duties as assigned

Compensation

• $14/hour with time-and-a-half pay on holidays

• Must be able to occasionally bend, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds

• We are looking for a reliable and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, good attention to detail and a positive attitude. 

• Able to work positively within a team-oriented environment 

• Part-time position (afternoons M-F)

• Must have experience cutting fabric for quilting/sewing

• Must be comfortable using a rotary cutter and able to make accurate cuts

• Able to stand for long periods of time

• Start date is immediately

• Pay varies

• Sewing, cross stitch and/or crochet experience for making sample products during shifts is a plus
